Lasting improvements of the human
environment are not possible without architecture:
A physician needs a room for his patients.
A teacher needs a classroom for his students.
People need a shelter to survive.
Everybody needs clean water. |

Who we are
APN – Architects for People in Need is an independent organization
from Munich, Germany. Most of our members are experienced architects and
engineers. In May 1992 we started as a working group for the development
and implementation of concepts for providing emergency aid and building
shelters in the former Yugoslavia. In 2000 we decided to expand our humanitarian
work and founded APN e.V., a registered, charitable organization.
We see architecture in context with social responsibility and humanitarian
engagement. Architecture is "built" environment; we are using
and living in architecture on a daily basis. Architects build schools,
preschools, hospitals, habitations, and they also take care of the corresponding
technical infrastructure for water and wastewater management, and power
distribution.
Lasting improvements of the human environment are not possible without
architecture:
A physician needs a room for his patients.
A teacher needs a classroom for his students.
People need a shelter to survive.
Everybody needs clean water.
what we do
We rebuild – infrastructure, homes, perspectives
We help those who are in need or are provided only a bare subsistence
and limited perspectives, due to war, expulsion, or persecution.
We help through immediate aid and humanitarian
relief measures
We build emergency shelters, including medical and social facilities,
and make sure they are operated and maintained properly. We take care
of basic supply with food, drugs, and clothing.
We help through reconstruction, and we help people
to help themselves
We rebuild destroyed or damaged homes, hospitals, and schools and the
corresponding infrastructure. Focal point of our work is the concept of
helping people to help themselves. We enable people to lay the foundation
for an economically sustainable way of living.
We help by improving the way of living in slums
and poor neighborhoods
All over the world, people living in slums are in the same depressing
situation:
no education, no medical care, contaminated water, and hardly any chance
to break out of the vicious circle of poverty and misery.
We are paving the road to a better future for these people: by building
and operating social facilities and schools, by establishing vocational
institutions, and by improving their way of living through medical care
and the supply of clean water.
